Door County, located in the state of Wisconsin, is a popular vacation and tourist destination. The county is named after the strait between the Door Peninsula and Washington Island. The dangerous passage, now littered with shipwrecks, has been known for centuries as Porte des Morts Passage which means "Death's Door" in English.
